It is great to have her so spoiled - that means she is on the mend and making choices. We will keep both her and you in our healing light and know that she is well on her way to a full recovery. You just keep spoiling her and give her a big hug and kiss from me.

Thanks ladies! Your love and support means the world to me. Just had to write a check for the vet $772! OUCH. Oh well. We'll make it through. I am thankful that it wasn't worse!

Alee, I just saw this. I am so happy that your Tala is on the mend. I know how much you love your horse. She is so beautiful.

Thanks Ladies! The biggest stress for Tala right now is the quarantine order. She hates being away from other horses so she is stall weaving (pacing back and forth quickly and sometimes standing in one place and swaying with her head) but she is eating and drinking which is the biggest concern. Hopefully we can move her a little closer to other horses tomorrow.

Poor Tala. That's so pitiful but for her own good. I hope she is better real soon so she can go out and play.

I just got back from checking on her again. She had literally wore a 3 foot hole in front of the gate of the stall she was in (soft ground plus determined horse is not good) so we moved her back to where she normally lives but no horses on either side. She seems content with that.

I'm so glad Tala is feeling better--horses, being herd animals, really hate to be separated from each other. Temple Grandin has some interesting observations on the subject. I hope she can re-join the other horses soon--you've both been through a very trying period. Hug that horse for me and tell her I wish her a speedy recovery.

Alee, I'm so sorry to hear about Tala's illness, but happy to read your more recent posts that she is doing better. That's wonderful! Sounds like she's happier in her regular stall--hope she continues to relax and best wishes for her speedy recovery!

crikey, how frightening. In 30 years of horse ownership Ive luckily never had anything like that happen, even with the babies. But it can happen at any time. It sounds like she is doing better, and now about the vet bill... My thoughts are with you Alee. ((hugs))

I am going to go check on Tala this morning on the way to work. I am hoping that I will see lots of wet spots in her run and a good pile of manure! Funny the things that will make you happy with a horse, eh? LOL

Sarah- I know what you mean!

I went and saw Tala again tonight. Lots of manure in her run - about 7 good piles. Since she had completely gone off all forms of feed for several days it took a while for her GI tract to fill again. I also noticed urine areas so that is excellent. She always was active and alert. She came up for scratches and tried to get away from me when I was spraying fly spray (typical). So I know she is feeling much better. My stress levels are going WAY down. Thank goodness!

So far so good! I am going to ask the vet when I can start her back on some gentle exercise. Since her medicine is fed as a powder on her food (grain) I can imagine she is going to get a bit stir crazy in a few days. But then again she did drop a LOT of weight in a short amount of time so it is possible it might take her a while to have energy again. When she starts screaming at the other horses or at me when I pull up- I'll know it's time to get her out and about again!

I am going to check on her again tonight- I haven't gotten to go see her this weekend due to family stuff but I haven't heard from my excellent barn manager and I know she is watching Tala very closely.

So sorry to hear about Tala's health problems. How is she doing now? And how are you doing in the aftermath?

Tala is doing much better. Last night I took her into the large out door arena and she played race horse (not as fast as normal since she is still recovering) but no wheezing or coughing. I think she is out of danger.

US...well...the bill came at about the worst possible time financially for us, but we are going to be okay. It'll just take a couple months to pay off our loan.

Thank you all for your concern! It means so much to me!

I just seen this.... so glad everything has worked out. I lost a horse, I keep her in my mind always. I even got a tattoo of her on my back! She was my best friend ever.
