I have heard of this but never seen it. My cat was after a small mousse that ran under a bucket. Well I lifted up the bucket so the cat could get it and that silly moouse ran towards the chickens. Johnny Cash, my all black chicken, tried to gobble it up. She tried to swallow it but couldn't, and the cat got it anyway. I have seen the chickens eat frogs, but never a mammal. . You ladies have a good day, Carol

I have two old hens who are the best mousers around. I was horrified at first but I now figure they have decided not to share their feed and home with mice so it is fine with me... Circle of life thing I guess.. They do allow a mink to follow them and during the winter they even allowed this sweet one to live in their big coop. Go figure because I thought the mink might attack the chickens - I guess they have worked that all out...

My chickens eat all kinds of wildlife. I've seen them with frogs, mice, baby birds that have fallen out of nests. That's sad. But that's life. I actually will throw out some meat scraps every now and then. Because they are not vegetarians. And it's good protien.

It's really funny to see when one of the hens catches a frog. All the others will chase her and another will end up with it. Then another. They'll do that for a long time. Cheap entertainment!

I've watched mine get frogs, and at first couldn't believe that's what they had. But it is fun to watch and like you said, cheap entetainment. One old fella once told me his chicken would catch birds at the feeders but I don't know about that....

I think I'll have to relocate my chickens! We have a major frog problem by the pond. It's so loud you can't even talk on the front porch sometimes. I will talk to Hubby about movin the pen over there under the tree. Then when we let them out to roam we can watch them lowerin the volume around here!

We don't many frogs in the yard, but I've watched my girls fight over a garter snake!

Love it when they catch mice and frogs! The boys didn't know what to think the first time they saw a mouse hanging out of one of the chickens beaks. It was hilarious! They had one of those giant green fat caterpillars the other day and man, were they fighting over it!!
