Our 10 month old bulldog was hit by a car a few hours ago. Somehow she got outside with the kids and while they were out back she was out front. My daughter said she foud her sitting on the porch so let her inside and said she was walking funny. I looked and she was foaming at the mouth, had blood in her ears, cuts all over, and wouldn't walk on her back leg.
She is at the vet's office right now. Her back leg is broken but they won't be able to tell how bad until they do an x-ray. Her breathing is labored and they are wondering about a punctured lung so will be doing tests. I hope to hear soon.
Bad day for them to have an open house...the place was packed and I bet they are busy but I hope they can help my baby. Please pray for her!

The vet called and said so far the x-rays of her diaphram look good. He will take another just to be sure and will postpone the surgery for her leg for tomorrow as well just to be sure about her diaphram. With that said, he femur is broken and will need a pin. Hope she heals quickly but I guess it really could have been worse. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

Sometimes that labored breathing is how they cope with pain. Super, duper scary, very time!

Oh I am so so sorry for your sweet one - I place your dear one in healing light and do so for your family too. Words can never seem to touch the pain and worry but just know that there are many of us who know that pain and would move mountains to take it away from you. Please keep us advised and know that you are loved and cared for.

Blessings

She should have the surgery on her leg this morning some time and we are hoping that she can come home tomorrow. All of us are missing her terribly and the house seems so lonely without her. Our Pom is just laying on the couch and is acting sad today so he is missing her as well. Can't wait to have her home again and smothering her in hugs and kisses. Thanks for all the warm thoughts, prayers, and words...it helps to know that other animal lovers know just how we feel.

Elizabeth, how are her lungs and internal organs. There had been a question there. Are they OK?

Hi Claudia,
The scans/x-rays showed no damage to her lungs and organs so that was a huge relief. Her only issue is her leg. And a little road rash on her body which should resolve itself pretty quickly. Thanks for asking.
The person who hit her didn't even stop to tell us what happened. And today I see the neighbor across the street putting the mudflap back on his car. I'm beginning to wonder what knocked the mudflap off...

Elizabeth, I'm so happy your puppy is going to heal, but so sorry this happened. I'm sick to think that your neighbor was more than likely the one that hit her and hasn't even talked to you! What is wrong with people???? Hugs and Puppy Smiles, Lin

Oh oh! Is your puppy so small that the neighbor could have not seen her? If not, it is pathetic and will be a sore that cannot heal until it is confronted. So sorry this whole situation has happened all around. I am so happy for your puppy though! Did I miss it? What is her name?

Her name is Weezy...fitting that she is a bulldog but actually named after a little toy on the "Toy Story" movies that my sons love.
No, she's not small, close to 55lbs. so whoever hit her had to know that they did. I'm not going to confront the neighbor as in the five years that we have lived here we have only talked to him once or twice but I'm always going to be suspicious. I don't blame who hit her (apparently she was in the road where she wasn't supposed to be) but how rude and inhumane of them to just drive away.
I don't know how to post pictures here, but I put a picture of her up on my blog today at www.trenchesofmommyhood.blogspot.com I will post more of her when she is home.

Thank you for Weezy's picture on your site, Elizabeth! She is a lovely sweet dog and a person can see the love pouring out of her kind eyes! I'm so thankful she's going to be okay, but so very sorry you all had to go through this. If you ever have occasion to talk to your neighbor, you could simply ask them if they saw your beloved dog get hit.....their reaction should tell all! Uncaring people are disgusting!! Just another update. The vet called me about 7pm this evening and said they finished the surgery on her leg and that it took a lot longer than he expected because the muscles in her back leg were so strong (that's a bulldog for you!) that when he would pull it straight the muscles would pull it back (or something like that) so it was hard to get in there and try to get everything straight.

Anyhow, he said that they haven't gotten her to walk around yet as she is still groggy so they will work on her with that tomorrow. I will call around 2 in the afternoon to see if she is ready to come home or if she should stay another night. We are anxious to have her home with us.

It is going to be HOT tomorrow though and we have no air conditioning in the van and it is a 25 minute drive to the vet's office. So if we do pick her up tomorrow I hope she fairs well on the way home.

On a good note Elizabeth we had a cat that broke her leg and had to have a pin put in. She actually lived longer with the pin than she did without it. She was healthy and happy for years. Her leg twisted a little funny when she walked but she never seemed to be in pain. So good luck with your baby.
