a few more questions
do you use the middle oven rack or bottom? do you place the bread pan on a baking sheet?
The only problem I had, was an air hole in the middle of the load, and it didn't quite finish baking in 20 minutes. I'm going to make it again when my son brings home some more ingredients today. I may lean toward melted butter, because we plan to make our own in the future. I also used the powdered milk with mine. It was delicious.

Kristine, middle rack in the oven and the 20 minutes is a suggested amount according to your oven. Some ovens are hotter than others and so I would bake it for 25 in your oven.
Regarding the air bubble. If you are rolling the loaf, be sure that you are pushing down and back each time you roll so that you are pushing air out of the dough. I am pretty rough with my loaves. Some people skip this step and just form the loaf from the 'lump' without rolling. Either way is fine. I just like the rolling method because it seems to make the loaf prettier and more uniform. It sounds to me like there was an air pocket left in that very first roll so just make sure you are pressing that out. Hope that helps.

Well after the dissapointment with the cheap one I had previously I wasn't going to buy another. You all have convinced me to give it another chance. My order will be coming today.

I have never heard of pastry cloth. But it sounds so much better than rolling out your dough on the cutting board and having it stick! (I do use flour, but it still sticks!)

Happy it is, indeed, for me that my heart is capable of feeling the same simple and innocent pleasure as the peasant whose table is covered with food of his own rearing, and who not only enjoys his meal, but remembers with delight the happy days and sunny mornings when he planted it, the soft evenings when he watered it, and the pleasure he experienced in watching it’s daily growth.

Tina, I have a friend who totally quit making pie crust for that very reason until she tried a pastry cloth. She's my best sales person!! :-) She brags that she makes all her own pastries now.

Mary Beth, my order came today, my daughter was here and she was so jealous. Thank-you for the extras, the chili mix and the cornbread, and the tea smells wonderful. Can't wait to try the scones. and the pastry cloth is beautiful. I believe I will be ordering some when it gets a little closer to Christmas, for the ladies in my family, and one for my daughter. Thanks again, and when I get to Oklahoma, I am going to let you know ahead of time and set up a time for a farmgirl meet. Can't wait. Thanks again, very pleased with the order and the quality and the time of delivery. Have a great weekend! Linda Farmgirl #946 |

Linda, I am so excited about you coming to Oklahoma! It will be great meeting you. I am glad that you liked your OPC™ Scones gift set and look forward to hearing how your baking comes out. Oh, and that chili is a bit stout (hoooottttt) and so I use a can of diced tomatoes rather than the tomato sauce and I definitely add the corn and beans plus some extra water. The taste is absolutely awesome. A lady I know and her husband make and market the chili. The cornbread is made not to far from me.

I finally got to use my pasty cloth for the first time. The day I had wanted to try it unexpected company showed up. I made my first soft whole wheat noodles on it. I was amazed how well it worked! I rolled out the noodle dough and turned it and rolled it again and absolutely no sticking whatsoever. I have made white flour noodles on the counter in the past and they always stuck no matter how much I floured the counter.
So I am sold on the pastry cloths. Its one of those things that comes along and you fall in love with the way it performs. I will use it everytime now instead of putting tons of flour on the counter and trying to scrape it all off when I am done. Thanks Mary Beth for making a fine product.

I agree Mary Beth, your pastry cloth is wonderful. Much better than the store bought one I tried!!! I made a pie crust last weekend and last night I rolled my tortillas on it, worked like a charm! Any of you girls up in the air about this get over to Mary Beth's site and order one!

Wonderful, Lillian!! Yay. You don't know how your comment pleases me. Cool. I always remind people that when they wash their pastry cloth, it will ravel until it reaches the stitching so just cut that off and be sure to hang to dry. You can iron it to make it crisp and flat, but ironing is not necessary. Thanks again.
