I'm so excited to say we have cows! We started with 3 black angus. They plowed through our fence and spent some time roaming the neighborhood. We sold one back to the guy we bought them from.
We decided to try a different breed and found the Belted Galloway's are much more calm. Pictured are a Black Angus steer and 3 Belted Galloways. The smallest one is the bull - the brown one. We have an Angus heifer in the barn.
I just love how the Belted Galloway's look. They originate from Galloway, Scotland.

Ps. Yes, that's an old outhouse. Not actually being used any more.

Beautiful cows! Hope you have great success with them. I have always liked the Belted Galloways. I found the stripe in the middle to be very striking.

Have you ever watched BBC's "This Farming Life" they follow each year 6 farmers in Wales, Scotland and northern England. Very interesting and some new to me breeds of cows, pigs, and sheep.

Good luck with your herd!

Hi Dawn. Thank you so much. I have not heard of that BBC series. It sounds like something I would enjoy. I will see if I can find it.

Congratulations on your sweet new cows! Belted Galloway’s are so cute. We have a farm nearby that has a bunch of them. I enjoy seeing them every time we drive by. We have 2 black angus calves right now and they definitely are not as calm. They make me miss my Holstein and Holstein/Charolais crossbreed. Enjoy your new cows!

How exciting! I have dairy cows (holsteins except one little jersey) I didn't know angus were so ornery!

Thanks everyone. The cows are doing well. They are growing and the angus seem to have calmed down some.
Krista, my father-in-law had charolais many years ago. He enjoys telling stories about them swimming across a pond to escape. He's happy to see cows on the farm again.

I'm so happy! We have our first calf! My son named him rain lord because it was raining most of the day Saturday when he was born. Isn't he adorable?

Thank your everyone. We have another calf, born this morning. Her name is Texette. My son noticed one side looks like the state of Texas. He thought about calling her Sandy - Sandy Cheeks from Sponge Bob is from Texas. But decided on a female version of Texas.
