Denise -- I'm happy he is doing so well this soon. It sounds like he has the spirit of a true survivor.

Thanks, we changed the dressing tonight. He is not happy with the way the stitches look but there is a lot of swelling so I tried to encourage him to wait and see when it gets a bit more normal looking.

Did he put ice or ice pack on it?

Darlene,
No he hasn't used ice on it yet. He did take the dressing off before he showered. They told him it was okay to get it wet. It doesn't look very good with the stitches but hopefully once the swelling is down and the stitches are out it will look much better.

Denise, I am happy to learn that JT has been doing well post surgery! That is wonderful and a relief for everyone. I bet he is also glad to be on the other side of waiting and on the getting better side each day too. Sometimes waiting for a surgery can be very hard because you dread having to go through it all. JT has his sweet great nurse to help him too so that makes it all more easy.

So glad JT is doing so well. He must be doing well if he could take off the dressing and get it wet that quickly. I could not get my shoulder stitches wet for 2-3 weeks.

So glad he is doing so well.

My shoulder is not doing so well - it is healed, but with the bone-on-bone arthritis, my doctor had said I might not get full movement. The upper arm still aches when I move in certain directions, and my PT therapist says he thinks I need a shoulder replacement. He said the recouperation is almost easier than this because once the swelling is down, the pain from the arthritis is gone and movement comes easier. I sure hope so. Not suure when this will happen, but maybe the sooner the better.

Oh Linda are you thinking of having a shoulder replacement?

JT snipped of his stitches. It was strange how they have done them. Because of just that one little stitch he couldn't open his palm. It was pulling the skin together but not anywhere near the incision. I didn't know he did it until after the fact. I don't like when he does things like that. I'm always afraid will mess something up. But I couldn't see where they had to mm put that stitch there either. I'm glad he will be going for his follow up soon.

Linda -- oh no-- having to go through another shoulder surgery? Too bad they didn't do that the first time.

Denise -- He's sounding like a typical male. How did they do the stitches? Usually they are done singly but when my son had a long cut down his calf the doctor did a blanket stitch. As we lived about 50 miles from the doctor at that time I always took stitches out instead of going all the way back to the doctor. Removing the blanket stitching was kind of tricky.

I think they are single but it's hard to see them. He worked yesterday and I think it may have bled some. He keeps it covered for the most part. There is no telling him what to do or not. Gave up on that ages ago.

Linda I'm so sorry!
Denise, sadly JT is much like other men...we love them, we feed them, we do their laundry, etc. But our opinions don't always amount to a hill of beans.

So today he has realized he overdid it leaving it unwrapped so we are putting a fresh dressing on and I think he will be glad to have learned a lesson. We shall see!

Yes, I think I will probably have a shoulder replacement. My PT Therapist said I will love it better than this, and the PT will be easier, because once the swelling is down and the pain is over it will be a lot easier to move and the arthritis will be gone. I sure hope so. LOL!

I wish they would hurry up, I would like to get out and walk normal again.
Have a good night and feel better!

Here is an update on my progress...

It’s not over til it’s over#128579; I went to Redding and saw the PAC again, last time I saw him was in 2018. Anyway he looked at my X-rays and aid they were going to do a different procedure, before final knee replacement. They are going to take out the spacer which he is concerned that it is making the end of the bones irritated and maybe crumbling. They are going to replace that with a long rod that goes into the femur and also down the Tibia so I can’t bend my knee at all. Probably will be in there for a month or two or three. Then they will put all the knee parts back.
in. They were concerned about infection still. That’s how it goes for now.

God bless everyone!
Darlene

Darlene, when my husband broke his hip three years ago??? They put a rod in his leg. Now it is fun to go shopping with him...because he sets off the detector at Wal-Mart. I suppose it is to catch thieves...but it lets everyone know he is entering or leaving.

Darlene, that sure doesn't sound like it will be comfortable. Are they eventually doing a knee replacement? If so, why not just do it and get it over? I probably missed something about why they are doing it this way.

Marilyn - I don't know what your husband's hip is made of, but mine doesn't set anything off. Mine is cobalt and something else.

Darlene - so sorry you have to go through all that.

I talk to the doctor who did my shoulder scope tomorrow morning. I will ask about a shoulder replacement; he doesn't do replacements, but I'm sure he will recommend a doctor or two from The Carroll Clinic in Dallas. The best specialists are at The Carroll Clinic.
