Carole your mushroom soup sounds yummy. I have her book so I may give it a try. Will have to order the Porcini on-line so it will definitely be for a special occasion.

Good Morning Sherry, You have been really busy already today. As I am hosting Thanksgiving tomorrow my kitchen will be humming. Need to make the dinner rolls, pies and prep all the stuffing ingredients. Have already done the cranberry sauce and lefsa. Think I forgot to get a turkey bag and there is no way I am going to town for one, so have to work around that one. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Thanks Sara! I actually found dried porcini mushrooms at my local Hannafords. I was shocked! They were in the produce mushroom section.

Sherry, you've been a busy kitchen elf!

Julie, enjoy hosting family!

There is a recipe for a turkey in a brown paper bag, Julie. That would work like a brown-in bag. I have done it a long time ago. I may cook, but not sure. Ed and I are both fighting allergies, colds, or whatever, so we are laying low this long weekend. I have the comfort foods to cook - chicken soup, spaghetti and meat sauce, chili, and I did get a turkey white and dark meat "breast" to cook. Ed doesn't like turkey, but I love leftovers. LOL!

Sherry, those turkey cookies are adorable!!!

Did anyone else remember that today is NationalTie One on Day? It is a day where you've an apron with something homemade backed in it to a special friend, family member or neighbor. I didn't get organized this year to do this but one year I plan to carry it out!

I didn't know that, Winnie, but let's find out what the day is next year and do it then. Is it always the day before Thanksgiving?

Tonight I'm finishing up with peanut butter fudge, two pumpkin rolls but earlier today I got my pecan pie made and graham cracker roll. The graham cracker roll is one of my granny's recipes and I sure do miss her. Can you tell I get to do all the deserts for our family dinner with all of Mark's family.

Tomorrow I will make some Rice Krispie peanut butter treats and we will have a nice non-traditional Thanksgiving lunch. We will be watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and then the football game.

Sounds yummy in all your kitchens! I just have to make wild rice dressing. I cook my turkey in a brown paper bag all the time. Put the thawed turkey (minus neck and giblets) upside down on a rack. Slide all in the paper bag and staple shut. I usually put butter inside the turkey and keep the dressing to cook in another casserole. Cook at 375 degrees until thermometer says it's done. Remove from the oven. Cut open bag and tear it off. Cool a little and then slice. Put turkey pieces on a serving plate. There is lots of juice to make delicious gravy. The breast gets juicy when cooked breast-side down.

Bonnie, I have always wondered about the process of baking a turkey in the brown paper bag but never knew anyone who did and could report. Your turkey sounds like it turns out delicious!!

Good News ! The benefits of having a well stocked pantry and a poor memory is after digging around on my paper products shelf, I found not one box of turkey bags but 2. So Mr. tom is happily residing in the oven working on his tan. Just have potatoes and sweet potatoes to peel and I can relax and watch the Macy's Parade. I love the idea of cooking the turkey in a brown paper bag, unfortunately those are rare here at the grocery store, I always forget to ask for them instead of plastic, although I hate all those plastic bags. Sherry your deserts sound wonderful we have apple or pumpkin pie and pumpkin bars for my husband who doesn't care for pie.

Sherry, Your turkey cookies are adorable! and the pie too looks good too!
We went to my daughter's for Thanksgiving. It was a change as it is only the third time in 35 years that I have done the dinner.
I am glad because it was a bit of a rough day with dad not here to share it. It's actually been a rough few days and I know Christmas won't be any better.
We had a nice time though. Looking forward to having my middle daughter and family here at Christmastime! I have a lot to do before then. Need to get things finished up in the two front rooms. Christmas gifts are just about done. So I can concentrate and getting the house a bit more in order. Need to be baby proofing some thing too.
Connie, Sorry your cake didn't taste so good.
I'll have to try the turkey in a bag sometime, sounds like it works great.

Connie, thanks for the tip! You are right, it does look delicious but looks can be deceiving! lol

My kitchen has been quiet. I did watch a Craftsy class on "food processor" and I learned quite a bit. Craftsy had a sale so I splurged! lol

It's 37 this morning and cold in my Yellow Rose Cottage but I have already been out there and cranked up slow cooker and dehydrator.

Have chicken backs in slow cooker for broth. Made another batch yesterday. Will can this weekend. Forecast for a low of 22 tonight so can't have water in the electric water bath canner. I use it to heat jars and hot water for pressure canner.

Yesterday I got a container of fresh Pico de Galleo in marked down bin for 60 cents. I drained it last night so it's less wet for drying. Will use in soup, stew, and meatloaf. If you are not familiar with Pico de Galleo it's fresh tomatoes, onions, and jalapeno peppers.

I wouldn't have thought of drying fresh pico - great idea.

Well I guess I'm slow, but I enjoyed reading all of your thanksgiving stories. Cute gobbler cookies Sherry. What is a Graham crackers roll?
Connie, that is a cute little cake.
Bonnie, I never heard of cooking a turkey upside down...but it makes sense.
For years I used the turkey bags Julie mentioned. I would make a raft of celery sticks for him to sit on then stuff the cavity with an apple, Orange and grapefruit, that I cut in fourths. The turkeys have always been moist and juicy.

Over the weekend I canned chicken broth made from backbones.
Today it's heirloom Marcello dried beans.
Tomorrow another heirloom dried bean - snowcap.
