I also want to find someplace to get zucchini to dehydrate.

Usually zucchini seems so plentiful! Is it just no that time of the year for you yet, Denise?

I bought a bread machine (a gently used one off of ebay)and some bread flour. Now I need an electric grain mill so I can grind some grain into flour. Everything I've read says it is so much more nutritious and good for you. My dehydrator has been busy... dehydrating all of the bags of frozen veggies that were taking up space in my freezer. They have been vacuum sealed in pint jars...waiting to be used in soups or made into powders. Has anyone else in the hen house become a follower/fan of ROSE RED HOMESTEAD???

I have a question...do you grind your own wheat berries, into flour and make bread for your family?? If so please tell me or us about it.

We do have it in the stores, but I would love to find a farm market or someplace I can get a good price on it.

Marilyn, I have ground my own wheat berries and made my own breads for 30+ years. I freeze it because I make 4 loaves at a time and we longer eat it quite so quickly as when the kids were home.
I do not use a bread machine but I have a Bosch mixer that does the mixing and kneading. I let it rise in the bowl for 30 minutes, then I shape it into loaves, let it rise and bake it.

When we had a wheat field next to us I ground the wheat into flour. It had a nice nutty taste. It took two passes with my hand operated grinder to get it fine enough. I don't know what kind of wheat it was but I suspect it was the pastry flour kind instead of bread flour kind as it made better muffins and quick breads than yeasted bread but it was all very edible.

I used to dry zucchini to put in minestrone in the winter when you couldn't get zucchini in the stores but haven't dried it in a few years now since you can buy it year round. I would dry it if I still had a garden but trees have shaded my backyard so no more garden. Oh well -- I'm getting too old to do all that bending and shoveling anyway.

Found this I had saved to my computer. Thinking I will definitely make it when I get some squash. Sounds so easy to add to a light summer meal.

I made a zucchini lasagna last week with zucchini, sausage and hamburger and lots of cheeses. It was very good. Here's the recipe in case you want to try it.

Since I've been on the keto diet, I have been substituting carb smart flour and coconut and almond flours instead of wheat flours to make different meals. I've also pulled a lot of keto recipes off the Internet to try for cakes, cobblers and such. Some taste very good and others not so much. LOL!

I know that feeling Linda. I've been experimenting with various sugar alternatives. Some do not behave well in certain recipes. I found some problems when I was on a gluten-free diet using alternative flours. I finally found a flour combination that worked well but it isn't keto or diabetic friendly. Still experimenting with the sweetners. Erythritol does NOT make good brownies or pudding.

Zucchini lasagna is good, have you tried eggplant lasagna?

Agree on that, Judith. Brownies are not good when made with Erythritol. So many seeets like cake and brownies just fall apart with Keto friendly ingredients.

I'm going to try Splenda next for brownies.
Last nights dinner was chicken pot pie with whole wheat biscuit topping.

I made Southern Peach Bread this morning. It is sooooo yummy. It was the first time I’ve made it. I used peaches from 2020 that were in the freezer. Perfect for the bread. :)

I found the recipe on Pinterest. I think the only thing I would change is an addition of nuts! Enjoy!

Judith, my reason for buying a bread machine...was to have a place for the bread to bake. My stove looks great, but after two lightening strikes the oven is inoperable! In fact nothing works but I can light the burners with a match. So I can cook on top of the stove. We bought an airfrier, not the round kind. My hubby found one that looks about the size of the microwave. It will bake, but it is not tall enough inside to bake bread. I have a hand crank grinder, but my arms and both shoulders are old and they do not enjoy grinding wheat berries. That is why I was asking if anyone in the hen house uses an electric grinder.

Marilyn -- My ex decided to electrify my hand grinder. I didn't want him to but he did it anyway. One reason he was an ex. It didn't grind fine at all and I had to put it thorough half a dozen times to get something that resembled flour. Fortunately my sister found me another grain mill at a thrift store. There are electric grinders that work well.

Marilyn, I have an electric grain mil calld the Whisper Mill. I think they changed the name to Wonder Mill. I bought from Lehman's back in 1997. Still working well. Very easy to use.
