Seems this summer is flying by. School starts here in 2 weeks but summer isn't officially over until September 21st. For some of you the summer will linger for quite a while yet due to warm temps.

Fall can’t come soon enough in Texas. We get back in a week and will miss the Michigan weather.

Denise, I am so ready for Fall. School also starts here in two weeks. But it will be hot, hot here in Texas. It would be so nice to have an early Fall.

Our school starts next week for our public schools. It is hotter now and worse than when they left May 31!! We are all about half crazy down here from such a long hot and miserable summer! There is no hope of any cool spells but I would settle for temps below 90 and less humidity. Anything would be a help these days. Everyone is staying inside and it doesn't even feel like Summer anymore because nobody wants to burn up at the pool or beach or be outside for a BBQ . Picnic tables are alone out in yards this year baking along with everything else. I heard on NPR this morning that July is going to the hottest month ever recorded on our planet!! Not good news!!!

Well if July is the hottest month, which is hard to believe here than I guess things can only be looking up from here on out!

August is always very hot in the Midwest - my mother aways sad it was 120 in the delivery room the day I was born - that was in Illinois. This next 7 days in Texas the temps are predicted to be between 105 and 110 with no rain in sight. UGH! So glad we are in Michigan for another wek.

Yes, August usually is hotter here but it looks like we don't get above the mid 80s this first week. I'll take that!

Hot here! Lily June goes back to school August 7th.
Our road still has mountains of tree limbs from that bad storm June 25. Waiting on Fema to pick them up since our county was declared National Disaster. We are still waiting on further roof repairs, more damage found last week as they got onto the roof. Still limbs and tree stumps to remove from our land. Too hot and too much to do all at once. I have had a lot of Butterflies so far!

Ready for fall!!

Oh Connie iam glad the storms didn’t mess up your Butterflies!, and that you are safe! So sorry to hear about the roof damage! Oh I bet that was so scary! And so dangerous.
I don’t think I like all your hot weather out there.
Stay safe and well
Hugs and love

Connie, so sorry that you had such a bad storm and that it is taking them a while to get to everything that needs to be done. Are you in the western part of TN? My brother and wife just moved to Holladay. I think that is on the western part of TN. Going to have to wait till it is on the cooler side to visit him. I can't take the heat. The colder the better for me.

Connie, that big storm was one for the records out your way!!! Most likely it will take a long while before all the debris can be picked up from your road. When we have had big hurricanes here, we have the same problem with long delays picking so much heavy stuff up.

That butterfly photo is gorgeous. This time of year, we get many more butterflies in our yard too. I love to see the many different patterns. I have also noticed an uptick in the number of bumble bees again. They were here in early Azalea season but then not so many around. Now, we are enjoying more which I also love along with the butterflies.

It seems like yesterday that the schools got out for summer vacation and now they are starting a new year. I bet Lily June is excited to meet her new teacher and see who is going to be in her classroom too.

That's a great topic for today! I have been crocheting while on the road; I can't read i a movng car, but have no trouble crocheting or knitting. We got home last evening; and today, after doing some shopping, I am ready to go BACK to Indiana!

We looked at several homes near one of Ed's cousins to use as a summer home - to get out of the Texas heat. We found one we LOVE! Only thing is - it is a 4 bedrooms, 3-1/2 bath, 1900 Victorian - a little too big for a summer home - but it has beautiful woodwork. I was thinking it would make a nice B&B or quilting retreat; there is a college nearby and there are several B&Bs nearby that I've been told stay busy. A B&B is not what I'd want to do myself; the first "B" I could manage, but the second "B" is not one of my best skills. LOL! Any good cooks among us? LOL!

I love books. Connie, FEMA takes forever to get around. When Hurricane Harvey hit about 5 years or so ago the Houston and surrounding towns where flooded. Including your truly. Had water in the house up past the baseboards. Lost a lot. FEMA took months to get to us. Continued prayers for you. Linda, A B&B is a lot of work.

Hugs,

Denise, thank-you for this photo about books. I have my nose in a book for awhile almost every single day. I love reading and there is never, for me, a time when there aren't good books to read. This Summer, I have been reading so much about the first 50 years of the 20th Century and learning a lot about our Nation and about the childhoods of my parents, which is what started me reading on this broad topic.

Linda, many years ago, I wanted to run a B&B somewhere out of Florida too. The problem is that hubby had no interest and it is a lot of repetitive work 7 days a week without a co-worker equally vested in the idea. The old victorian house that your found sounds awesome!! Just having a place to go to escape the awful heat of the deep South in Summer months is worth serious consideration , I think. Instead of making a formal breakfast, you could do what many hotels do and that is just have the same menu available every day. Coffee, juice, small yogurts, a few cereals, bread & english muffins for toast, maybe some donuts, individual butters and jelly packs, and maybe fresh fruit like bananas or apples. Set up the time the breakfast is available, make the coffee, and let the guests serve themselves. That way, you don't cook, you just let people eat what they want. Use disposable serving ware . Easy peasy and just post about breakfast on your website link so people know what to expect.

I finally finished quilting my scarecrow fabric panel that I found at Hobby Lobby about a month ago. It turned out so much bigger than I was thinking and needs a large space to accommodate it. The only place I have is above my faux fireplace in my LogCabin room. After I put it up, I got the idea to get all of my scarecrow things out and create a Scarecrow village. It gets kind of busy so I am not sure I want all that below the panel, but for now, it looks cute and bright and nice deterrent from the 110 heat index we are having daily outside.

Winnie that is adorable and the perfect place for your scarecrows! Love the house. I have a rather large one that lights up and I keep it on my hearth. My scarecrow also gets a place there as he too is large. Your log cabin room is so sweet.
