I went to one of those spa parties this weekend- only bought some heavy duty cream for my feet. However, there was some hand scrub that I really liked and realized that I could make myself. I like to use sugar as an exfoliant, so I was wondering what I could put with it and use as a scrub. The sugar alone is fine, but I'd like to find something I could mix it with to keep by the sink. What could I use? Would the sugar go bad? Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks-
Kim in NC

I make my scrub fresh each time.

I mix it with lemon juice and honey. It's simple and cheap!

I make (and sell) mine out of a few different things:

salts (a blend of kosher, epsom, sea and dead sea) EVO, any citrus EO or a blend of them, and some veggie glycerin

or

sugar, EVO, a citrus EO and some veggie glycerin

easy and soooo good for hands and feet!

Thanks for the ideas. I didn't think of salts, other than that if I use my epsom salts in the tub they rust the razor! For hands though, which I would always be washing at one of the sinks, salts would work wonderfully.

This is something that has worked for me.. & I actually heard it from Suzanne Somers..take your used coffee grounds, rub them into your hands & rinse. It works as well as anything. I have even taken flavored coffee grounds, added some coconut oil & saved in a little container to use at my sink throughout the week. I have some chocolate grounds right now that smell wonderful!! Talk about recycling!

You know, MaryJane has a FABULOUS recipe for rosemary hand scrub in her "Ideabook..." Check it out! I keep one by the mudroom sink and one by the bathroom sink. It leaves your hands SOOOooooo soft!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Another way to recycle coffee grounds. I love it! I hate throwing them away. How about leaf tea and ideas on how to recycle after you seep them?

Kim - you can just mix sugar with olive oil. This makes a great scrub and moisturizes at the same time. Or use any type of butter like shea, cocoa butter, etc. Just soften the butter in the microwave, add your sugar to the right consistency, and it's a scrub.

It won't go bad but you might get yuckies if any water is introduced. Sugar tends to be more likely to do that than salt. But if you make a small batch you should be ok for a month or so.
