For those who are looking for the Magazine portion of the website, here is the place to find additional patterns, instructions, recipes and such! Yum!

http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Recipes-Patterns-Instructions/

You can reach it by going to
www.maryjanesfarm.org
clicking on the top option "MaryJanesFarm Magazine"
Then on the next page scrolling down and clicking on "Occasionally, we'll send you to the website for recipes, patterns, instructions, and links mentioned in the magazine. Find those here ..."

Which will take you to http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Recipes-Patterns-Instructions/

Hope that helps!

Check out the ChillOver Jam! It's soooo good!!

Yes, Rene! They do! It's under the product listing, then stitching room, then a link to the free pattern. Of course I am taking the liberty of shortcutting and posting the link here :

Thank you so much, Alee. I knew you would find it.

So, do you think I could re-process some of this syrup with chillover powder and turn it into jelly?

Sure! If it hasn't turned solid yet, it would be a perfect liquid to add chill over powder to!

It kind of feels like cheating but I'm doing it! I have to salvage some of this stuff into something we'll use all the time.

Well since two farmgirls had problems with the plum jelly recipe from the canning books...perhaps it is faulty! So I don't think this is cheating if you were mislead (or even if you weren't!) Cheating would be buying it from the store after you tried to make it, right?

Well, last night I dumped out the first batch I had made without the pectin. I added 2 packets of chillover to 4 cups syrup while boiling. I didn't add any more sugar since I already had sugar in it. After I canned them up, I thought I might have made a huge mistake because the jam recipe called for 4 cups juice and 2 cups sugar and thought that maybe my 4 cups total might not be enough and I could end up with a super-solid. But that doesn't seem to be the case. When I tipped the jars this morning to check for set, it still moves but much much slower. I'm not sure if I have jam or just even thicker syrup. Maybe it will set up more in a day or so.

Anyway, I'm done with the plum juice. I had no idea how much work 2 gallons of juice would be! I still have 4 buckets of apples to put up and peaches are coming in Friday. I don't think I'll try jelly again. It was a lot of work and re-work. I'll stick with what I know and that's preserves and butters.

Isn't that awesome! I want that chicken coop as well! But I think it will have to wait until I have an area to build it where I can have chickens!
