Hello Everyone, I'm honored to have found a place to share with those who seem to enjoy the things I love! I love to sew, cook, bake, write, paint, and lately, to garden and 'put away'!

My precious husband and I live in a very rural area where we enjoy the deer in our yard daily, a red-shouldered hawk who bathes in our stock tank, and the silence of having some space. Our latest 'project' will be to build a chicken coop and join those who enjoy fresh eggs and the fun of poultry.

I am a grandmother to eight wonderful children; am truly blessed to have found the love of my life! I am thankful to be able to pray for my family daily; and to speak over the phone to my parents each evening, despite my Mom growing more forgetful each day. I am grateful for every morning, for a chance to make someone smile, and for blessings that I may or may not recognize at the moment!

I'm rambling...anyway...Hello! I'm very happy to be here.

Katie, Thank you for saying hello! Please call me Lisa (Elisabeth)! Your blog entries are incredibly beautiful! Yes, I do have a full and happy life. For years I thought I was busy working with the elderly in assisted living; now, since my husband 'retired' and I was given the luxurious choice to stay home and do something with him, life has kicked in to full speed! So many dreams and projects; always more ideas and visions of what could be!

Your linen bag is spectacular! Again, thank you for saying hello. I hope we'll become 'friends' as I get the hang of this. Lisa

Jennifer,
Thank you for saying hello! We too are very anxious to get started with the chickens! We are waiting for cooler temperatures to get started on the coop. There is a cement foundation on the property that we think will be perfect for this purpose. We saw that someone had used a hayring as the base, so since we have one at our disposal, we are taking off from that idea. Part will be poultry wire, and part an enclosed structure. We keep tossing around lots of ideas, but yes, we are anxious to get moving!

Today the temperature was in the mid-90's and very humid. Originally being a northern girl...I am LONGING for some cooler, autumn weather! Then again, I'm grateful for every day, and we do have the benefit of two gardens a year. The winter tomatoes and peppers are planted; romaine and swiss chard are up, as is the squash, cucumbers and the carrots/radish mixture! Who can complain with fresh food all year!

Again, Hello Jennifer. I hope we get to know one another better. The picture on your blog is so beautiful! Lisa

Julie,
Thank you for saying hello! I'm sure we'll have tons of questions for you 'chicken girls' when the time comes! As I think I mentioned, one of our concerns, and something we need to really plan for, are the predators that so comfortably live here in the woods with us. Last night it was FINALLY cool (66') enough to leave the windows open. We heard coyotes and their pups throughout the night, as well as what sounded like a very large owl. I would be crushed if I thought I hadn't protected the chickens well enough, and something happened. We are even careful when 'Fawn', our little 'rescued' chihuahua, goes out. If the hawks get our squirrels and the mourning doves with little effort, a six pound chihuahua could look pretty appetizing.

Anyway, thank you again for your warmth in saying hello! I'm so anxious to get to know you. Lisa

Thank you, Karen, and Hello! I had been glancing at your blog, and was tearfully inspired! I don't know how I would have made it in my life without the grace and mercy of Jesus. His friendship and that daily communion with Him have become more and more real, and important, to me, the older I've become.

So, thank you, Sister in Christ. Blessings on you and yours today! Lisa

Sharon,
Another dear Sister in Christ! Thank you for saying Hello! I'm so blown away that there are women out there.....HERE...that find joy through giving God the Glory!

You all, already, are an answer to my prayers. And we share a love for anything by Laura Ingalls Wilder in common as well. Again, thank you for making me feel welcome.

God Bless You!
Lisa

Hello, Elisa . . .
I just joined today, but I have been subscribing to the FarmGirl Magazine for a while now. I live in North Central Florida . . . a little town on the Suwannee River named Branford. Where do you live? I just contacted a FarmGirl Chapter in High Springs.

Welcome Carolyn!

We live a bit further south than you, and the Chapter. We're north of Brooksville; our little town is named Istachatta - population 65 (or close to that)! We live near the Withlacoochee River and Withlacoochee State Forest. It is beautiful farm, horse and cattle country.

I am enjoying my new subscription to Mary Jane's Farm, and really enjoying this wonderful connection. Again, Welcome! And thank you for saying hello!

Thank you, Judy, for saying Hello! I love your quote! I too found that the magazine, and this web site are meeting a need that was deep inside of me, to connect with some caring, creative, 'Farm Girl' souls. I look forward to knowing you better!
