Farmgirl Round Up!
September 16th-18th, 2010
Minneapolis, MN
(Twin Cities Area)

What's Happening?
MaryJane Butters is coming to town at The Creative Connection! http://www.thecreativeconnectionevent.com/
For those of you attending The Creative Connection, you'll be able to hear her speak on Thursday evening. For those of you not able to attend the event, you can still meet her and her daughter Meg at the Handmade Market in their booth. MaryJane will be signing books and magazines at the Barnes and Noble booth from NOON to 2pm on Saturday! Entrance to the Handmade Market is $10.00 per person day. The Creative Connection is Thursday-Saturday.

For more fun and shopping opportunities, there is the fabulous Junk Bonanza in Shakopee, MN (SW of Minneapolis) on Thurday, Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $8.00 a person for some Antiquing on steroids!
http://www.junkbonanza.com/index.php

If that isn't enough to wet your appetite, there is also a humongous scrapbooking event called ScrapFest 2010 that is put on by Archiver's and held at the Mall of America! It takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. $20.00 admission http://www.scrapfest10.com/
http://www.archiversonline.com/

When's the Round Up?
With all this action in town on the same weekend...it's just prime for some Farmgirls to gather and attend these events at their own leisure! However, we would love to welcome you to Minnesota and have a Farmgirl event just for Farmgirls! So set aside some time on Friday night, the 17th for a meal at the Birchwood Cafe in Minneapolis and then Saturday night, the 18th starting around 4pm to hang with farmgirls from MN and wherever you all are flying/driving/canoeing/biking or hiking in from! The details are in the works, but stay tuned for this great time of getting together! We can add more activities depending on the interest of the farmgirls coming! Here's is what we are going to do so far on Saturday Night!
  • Farmgirl Apron Fashion Show
  • Quilt Square Swap (5 1/2 " x 5 1/2" squares that represent you!)
  • Eating amazing food together
  • Campfire, S'mores and Farmgirl Lore
  • Topic of Discussion: The Lost Art of Handwritten Letters

Where Do I Put My Tent?
Looking for some local campgrounds? Most are down by me and the Junk Bonanza, it's about 30 minute or more commute to downtown Minneapolis and 15-20 minutes to Mall of America in non-rush hour traffic. Here are some links to help you out:

Holler If You're Coming!
Let me know if you are interested in coming out for the Round Up! We can't wait to meet you!

~April

Just added some new information on the first post here! Look for when you can meet MaryJane and get your MJF magazine or Idea book signed! Also, I've listed some of the activities you can look forward to on the evening of the 18th!

APRON FASHION SHOW

If you are joining us for the Round Up on Saturday night the 18th, we would love for you and your apron or just your apron to be a part of the Apron Fashion Show! If you have more than one special apron you'd like to bring, please by all means do so!

Please also bring a notecard with a short bio of your apron, how you acquired it/made it, why it's special to you and what you use it for. If it has some history, put that on there too! This way we can read this during the modeling of it and then clothespin it to it when it's on display on the clothesline!

This is going to be great fun!

Quilt Square Swap
We are going to be sharing some farmgirl hugs by swapping quilt squares! If you've never done this before, it's super easy and loads of fun to do! Here are the specifics!

A Quilt Square Swap is when you cut out squares of fabric that represent you and then you trade with other farmgirls! When you have collected enough squares, then you can make a farmgirl quilt with all the new farmgirl friends you have met! When it's all done, it's like a hug from lots of farmgirl friends!

• Quilt squares should be 5 1/2 " x 5 1/2"
• Fabric should represent you
• Squares can be embellished, embroidered or written on with fabric markers with your name, Farmgirl Sisterhood # and/or your name you go by on the forums at MaryJanesFarm.

It's important that you at least include your name on your square somehow, so we can remember who's square is whose! I can't wait to give out some hugs at the round up!

p.s. You can get 48 squares out of a yard and a 1/4 of fabric! So really, depending how many people will be doing this, you don't have to break the bank on this fun project!

OK, now that I know what my DH plans on doing, I am trying to make it up. I can't afford the Creative Connection, but really want to go to the market and meet MaryJane and Meg. This week is opening bow/deer season and DH wanted us to go hunting. I would rather meet up with some fellow farmgirls. April, I will be e-mailing you for more specifics.

Topic of Discussion: The Lost Art of Handwritten Letters

All of our Farmgirl gatherings have a topic of discussion and this one is going to be fun! We will be talking about the written word in our own handwriting, using fun postage stamps, picking out special stationery, talking about who we would write to and making it a part of our life again!

To get your brain stirring about this topic and get you ready to discuss, read Suburban Farmgirl Paula's blog entry here:
http://sfgblog.maryjanesfarm.org/default.asp?Display=31

Dig out that shoebox with personal, handwritten letters sent to you and bring one for fun! You can share why it is special to you and let us know how long ago you received it! You might be surprised at the date!
