Hi all! My cousin's nephew was born last night. He is in desperate need of prayers!!! He was born with a disproportionately small head, his bottom lip is so far in he cannot suck properly, he has a dimple in his back, and most urgently, he has no anus. He has been transferred to a different hospital, without momma, to have emergency surgery to fix this, though they have no idea as of yet how bad the defect is. Please please please pray for Blake and his family! I will update as I can!

UPDATE: Surgery will not be until tomorrow or the next day, as they are trying to stabilize him. The momma is having issues as well... this is her second baby. After her first child, she hemorrhaged internally to the point of almost dying... she is showing signs of this again. Please continue to pray and I will update everyone as I know something!

UPDATE 2/17 - Good morning all! God is good! He is answering prayers as we speak! Baby Blake will hopefully be able to have surgery today. As of right now, the plan is to give him a colostomy bag. He will then spend probably the next two weeks in the hospital. After three to six months, they will look at more surgeries to give him an anus. Hopefully waiting that long to do anything more permanently will mean less consecutive surgeries. He has a long road ahead of him! With that said, this came as no surprise to God! And it is He who is in control!

Jessie (the momma) is still struggling with her health as well. Her swelling is really bad, and her potassium is critically low. Due to Blake being in the NICU (they also have him under bili-lights), and her own health concerns, she is unable to see or be with him very often. They did allow her to hold him for a short while this morning.

UPDATE 2/17 PM - Blake's colostomy surgery was successful! He will be on a vent for the next three days.

Thank you for your continued prayers, and I will continue to update as I know anything!

Shannon, Blake is in my prayers as well as his family.
You are in my prayers as well.
What do you mean by he has a dimple in his back. I have never heard of that before?

Thank you Sara, Judith, and Darlene.

Darlene - it is called a sacral dimple. Many times it means nothing, but other times it could be due to an issue, such as spina bifida.

Sending lots of hugs their way. I can think of no greater suffering than to have a hurting child.

This is good/positive news for baby! I continue to pray for baby and mmomma.

A step niece was born without the anus about a year ago. She had surgery to make one for her. She is doing well so far, and is surrounded by so much love and care. Talk about angel babies!

Shannon, did they not see any of these issues during ultrasounds? Or was it a complete surprise when he was born?

Thank you all for the prayers!

Krista - no. As wonderful as ultrasounds are, they are unable to pick up many things... the lack of an anus being one of them. Generally speaking this happens within the first two months of existence. (weeks 7 to 9 I think).

A friend of mine now in her 50'S was born without an anus and even back then it was fixed and she has lived to see her 50's and I hope to see well beyond that. But I will certainly say prayers for both of them and the family....
