I have had this Orchid plant for over 10 years, it has traveled back and forth to/from California - Washy...
Every year about this time she gives me Orchid babies..

It's funny I know many people are intimidated by orchids,,, but they really are quite easy to grow, they are not fussy plants.
They like light but not direct light, I spritz mine every few days and once a week I soak the roots in a bowl of water for a half hour, sometimes I let it soak several hours...
No soul, just use orchid bark or large pebbles to set your plant on.

Are there any other Orchid plant lovers here?

That’s a beautiful plant Grace. I have always wanted one but have been intimidated by them. I always hear they are so hard to keep alive so I have avoided them. Maybe I should just give one a try and see if I can keep it alive.

Krista,, they really are easy peasy... don't think of them as a potted plant, don't sit in direct sun light,,, this one isn't even in bark,, I have a wadded up plastic bag in the container to cradle the plant,, so I spritz/mist it 2-3 times a week,, and then once a week I put the plant in several inches of water to soak for at least 30min.
Easy peasy.

Wow Grace! That certainly is a beautiful orchid. Yes, I love orchids too. My grandfather used to have a massive greenhouse full of orchids that he meticulously cared for - they were his babies! When he passed away, I inherited some of his cattleya and cymbidium orchids that can successfully grow outdoors in the shade here in Queensland, Australia. I also had a few King orchids which are native to Australia. They just attach themselves to a tree and away they go.

Cindy,, yes they grow quite easy in SO California,,,

Did you grandfather have 'Staghorn Ferns' as well.. another cool plant that does not need to grow in soil,, just attach to a piece of wood and hang out of direct light.. soak about once a week...

My daughter would love your stag horn wall. She has one that is over 5 feet wide. Five of my cymbidiums are blooming now. They do grow easy here; just need protection if it gets colder than 28.

Yes, Grace! My grandfather did grow stag horns and elk horns. I love what you've done with the wall - looks fantastic!
By the way, thank you so much for the sweet farmgirl mail & the gorgeous cupcake pot holder pattern. I absolutely love it! It arrived this week at my parents' place - what a lovely surprise!! I'll have to post some pictures when I get some made.
