What is it about them that can make you feel so good, even if you are wearing blue jeans?

I have taken to wearing mine often lately. I work at a nursery and even wore them to work, even though I knew I would be on knees digging in the dirt.

I have had a cold this week and have felt really crummy. I didn't go to work today. I just wanted to make tea and crawl under the sick quilt. Instead, I put on some swing music, my dancing shoes, donned my apron, pearls already on, and made a very decadent chocolate dessert. Wearing pearls, apron and dancing shoes with blue jeans, took some of the dessert to my co-workers.

It is amazing to me how something so simple as my little string of pearls can make me feel better inside and out.

Anyone else wear their pearls, just cuz?

For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

Love'em! I have a couple pairs of pearl earrings (stud and drop) and I was wearing them the other day with nothing fancy on (I wear them with jeans too!) and the fella said that out of all my earrings he likes them the best- so classy and pretty. What a sweetheart :)

My wedding ring and another of my favourite antique rings have pearls as well- there's just something about 'em that are timeless and lovely.

I have three lovely sets of pearls, white, blue and brown with an extra pair of black pearls stud earrings. The other sets include necklace, bracelet and stud earrings. I wear them with jeans and my western shirts and my fancy dresses. I love the way the feel on my skin. I think there are no limits to what you can wear pearls with. Or if your daring just on their own.

May the force of the Horse be with you.

YES!! I love pearls ( fake as mine are, I still love them lol)
I have many off white strands and two strands of pink pearls. I wear them with jeans and feel great, I wear them with a pretty skirt and feel great too. In fact I always feel good when I wear my very very fake pearls, LOL

My mom has 2 pair that were her grandmothers. I hope to inherit them some day. One strand has amethyst about every ten pearls. It is gorgeous!

I have freshwater pearls to match just about any outfit. I like long strands, so freshwater are affordable. I buy them off ebay for CHEAP! I actually got a strand for 2.00 w/shipping one time. I think I have spent about 50.00, and I have 8 or so pieces of jewelry, many are multi-strand. I had some cultured pearls, but they were a gift from my ex-husband, so I gave them to my teenage cousin.
I got a multi strand of FW pearls with peridot chips just to make other jewelry with. It ends up being cheaper than when I buy pearls and gemstones from the bead shop.

The thing I like the most about wearing them, is the warmth. I read somewhere that many chinese women claim they help them with menstruation issues.

I wear my pearls almost everyday, especially to work. I have two strands: one, a very pretty and simple strand of freshwater pearls that are such a pretty color white. They have a sterling lobster clasp, and sit right above my collar bone, so they look wonderful with sweaters and open collared shirts. VERY Donna Reed :)

The other strand is a variated strand (starting smallest to biggest, meeting in the center) that belonged to my Great Aunt who received them as a graduation gift in 1920. They are more ivory in color, and are hand tied. Gorgeous, but I worry about them because they're brittle and I want to have them restored. I think I will do that for Violet, maybe when she graduates (that's many moons from now, though, thank goodness :).

This may sound weird, but I've just started wearing jewelry. Your pearls all sound lovely. I'll have to start looking online like you, Trish. I made jewelry briefly as a college job, so I'm sure I could remake some nice beads if the length or pattern was unappealing.

Hubby got me a lovely strand of pearls a couple of years ago - I had always wanted a real strand. They feel so good to wear. And they look good with anything. I also have a double strand of freshwater pearls, and I think they are really pretty too. Those can be purchased for much less but look so delicate and are natural.

Jonni - my daughter inherited a variated strand from her grandmother, and they are hand tied to - they are the prettiest. I did not know they grow brittle and need to be restored - I will have to tall my daughter to take care with them. Do that for Violet - the years go by so fast, and you will have a lovely heirloom to give her for maybe her wedding day.

Pearls are the best. My mother had a double strand whe wore maybe once, they disappeared along with lots of other things, lots of moving and shifting and losing things. I do have some fake pearls I like. My daughter has an incridble assortment of costume jewelry and one pearl necklace that has huge fake pearls. She wears her fake ones all the time. jewelry is good medicine, and a decadent chocolate dessert , an apron, etc. sounds like the miracle cure.

Jonni made reference to Donna Reed. I wonder if the wearing of pearls for me now is one more thing that connects me to my past. A few have made mention about mom's or gramma's and their pearls. Maybe it is like aprons, and homemade bread, fresh veggies from the garden... the whole MJ concept of the best of what use to be. That we can be strong women, while still being ladies.

Here's a neat hint I learned on Antiques Roadshow-
If you want to know whether your antique pearls are real or fake, rub them against your teeth (go on, try it) real pearls sound and feel gritty, and fake pearls are smooth. This test works best on natural pearls as opposed to cultured pearls.

Sounds weird, but it works!

OH this also reminds me of my Omi, ( grandmommy) She used to wear pearl ear studs, the little medium sized ones. I loved them and wish i had them.

Yesterday I received a gift from a friend in Australia. Guess what was in it?? PEARLS!! A lovely 5 string necklace, small ear studs and 5 bracelets, all pearls. YAY I have a whole collection now, lol

What a great gift, Marian!!! I think I would like to get a pair of small pearl studs. I wore a pair at my wedding but lost one of them. The hunt is on!

Pearls will complement your complexion no matter what your coloring is. I've also heard that your skin oils help protect them from crumbling (like opals). 2 more great reasons to wear your pearls (real or faux). Okay - one more - because they make us feel pretty!

Pearls are "warm". I always feel pretty when wearing mine. I have a necklace, bracelet and earrings that are light blue freshwater, among several other pieces. But wear the blue most, and of course, with jeans.

Ooo, Vicki, I like your description. I agree, they are warm. They have such a subtle beauty about them, which is maybe why they can be worn with anything and look great!

Guess what I'm wearing today, this beautiful Monday when I have to be inside the office? A crisp Blue and White windowpane checked Brooks Brothers shirt (a total STEAL at the thrift), a pair of wide legged (sailor style) khakis, wedged sandals and my trusty single strand of PEARLS. Way to start the week in style ;)

My hubbs got me a string of pearls with earrings for our 30th anniversary. I love them, the weight of them on my colarbone, they feel so substantial. I wear them whenever I can. I would take pearls over diamonds any day.
