Hello,

I have jams & preserves from 2010 in my pantry :). I opened the strawberry jam, and there is no mold, but it is darker and super sweet. I have strawberry, rhubarb, blackberry, plum, and pickles from 2010 to 2014.

I looked online, and most places say they are safe for 12 months....

Thanks,
Heike

When in doubt toss. No sense getting someone sick.

Could you put it in a pan on your stove first, add a bit of water, bring it to a boil and cook it back down to a consistency you like? Jams aren't as problematic as vegetables I wouldn't think.

Actually, the consistancy is fine. I just hate throwing them out without giving them a chance :)....I think about all the lovely fruit, and the work & love in each of these jars! Today is my "purge" day. I have been going through the fruit in my freezer too. At least, the freezer food is safe, and I just make topping or preserve with it. I just need a better system so that we use everything. I don't mind eating jam from 2010 since I made it, but this is something others wrinkle their nose at when I intend to give it away :).
