Oh ok we just put them on the fence till we were ready for them to be dipped in the boiling water. It was a regular assembly line at butchering time.We had many that we did at a time and I had three aunts that would come to help and they would take some home to feed their families so it was usually an all day event. Plus all the other normal chores. I know we always started early and dad would get a fire going early for the barrel of water we kept over it all day. It took all day to get everything ready, then doing them all then cleaning it all up. But we only did it once a year and everyone made sure they were there to help. Sometimes i miss those days. Families all lived near and helped one another and visited often.

With the few chilly days we have had, I pulled out the turkey carcass from the freezer and made a thick turkey soup. Oh, it smells so good!!

Family is still important but most are widespread now due to jobs and such.

This morning I'm prepping bread & butter pickles. My neighbor who gets food from Paris Food Panty gave 5 lbs of cucumbers; yellow onions; red bell pepper so I'm making pickles. Will prep today and can in the morning.

The pantry workers know she shares with me so they load her down. Also a bag of russet potatoes; 4 pears; and 1 dragon fruit. I am able to eat little fresh fruit so I gave the dragon fruit to Betty.

Bread and butter pickles are a favorite here. I haven't made them in a long time.
They make the house smell so good while making them.

I always make my Mom's bread and butter pickles each summer when my daughter's garden ones ripen. They are a family favorite and I send them out to two of my siblings as well. The pickle stash is gone and awaiting June's arrival of new cokes!!

I woke to a thunderstorm this morning so I put the B&B pickles in jars and into the fridge. They will be good for two months.

Betty came by on her way home from her great-grandson's first birthday party. My great niece (mother of triplets) and sister to birthday boy's daddy is truly a FarmGirl. They have pigs and she made lard and sent me a quart of the prettiest white lard. I think biscuits and scones will be in my cooking future. Also sent Amish bread and poppy seed cake. Since I will be cooking with lard I only took a slice of each and Betty will take the rest to Bobbie.

What's that old saying if you want something done give it to a busy person. Besides corralling the triplets she bakes, cans, gardens, and raises chickens ang pigs. Her husband works in Paris so it's left to her to manage their little farm during the day. He's the builder - built hen house & pig sty.

Do y'all drink smoothies? Every morning I make a big one, pour it into two glasses and that is our breakfast. It sure is fast.
What do you put in your smoothies?
I buy frozen fruits, like strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, mangos, and pineapple. Then I add a bananna, Apple and some chia seeds. Since we were drinking reds and greens, now they go in also, as well as some beets and spinich. I enjoy mine with coconut milk but the Mr. Likes Apple juice. So I compromise. I add a bit of coconut milk or cream after I pour his up, give mine a stir or a spin and wala!
Today I will divide the fruits I got Saturday, along with spinich, Apple chunks and bananas, into quart size slider bags and put them back in the freezer. Last Friday I filled up small bottles with chia seeds, reds, greens, and beet powder. Now tomorrow will be fast smoothie time...just dump, pour, blend and drink your breakfast.

Marilyn your breakfast smoothie sounds tasty and good for you.

The only smoothie I make is with buttermilk, avocado, and a little orange juice to thin it out.

In the summer I put fresh strawberries in a glass and cover with Merlot or white wine. Let sit awhile and then enjoy for a lite-supper.

That sounds good too Sara. I do add avocado to my smoothies sometimes. I used to put oatmeal in them before I learned about chia seed. I like that it usually lasts me until about 1 pm.

Marilyn that's good you can go to 1 p.m. on your breakfast smoothie.

Over the weekend I started a small batch of preserved lemons to use in eastern dishes. I have been making them for years using PBS American Test Kitchen recipe - Martha Stewart does it the same way.

The heirloom dried beans company's blog had an article on preserved lemons. After the lemons are preserved you scrape the white part off and chop up the rind. It's easier to add to recipes. I will give it a try when my lemons are preserved.

Your smoothies sound wonderful and healthy Marilyn. I do smoothies with a protein type drink in the mornings sometimes. Now that we have those wonderful Florida strawberries coming and more fruits through the summer I will be having them more often.

For smoothies we put Chia and flax seeds, fruits, sometimes avocado, coconut or cashew or almond milk, and protein powder. I need to make them more - it is a better and easy breakfast.

Today I filled capsules, 400! I was green, my dress was green, but I filled enough for myself, hubby, our son and Baylee. Oh Moringa powder is what I used. It is going to help with my arthritis stiffness and pain. It is also going to give me energy.

You notice I'm being positive! But in two weeks I shall feel better. I'm still taking the other things, but still must rely on advil twice each day. We shall see. I guess I am bound and determined to find something to help.

Making steamed asparagus for supper. I bought some last grocery trip and I roasted some for lunch yesterday and wanted to use it up. JT doesn't eat it but I love it.

I have 4 chicken thighs with bone and skin; button mushrooms; fresh parsley; bay leaves from my wee bay tree; celery salt; and black pepper corns in slow cooker for chicken mushroom broth. First time to add mushrooms to chicken broth but it should be good. My slow cooker is in Yellow Rose Cottage so it was good to be out there in the morning air and to soak up all the peace. For me mornings are the time of the day to find my peace and then hang on to it for the rest of the day.

Denise two years ago Linda was here and took pictures. She posted them on SPG but when I looked just now I couldn't find them. Only went back to 2018 and I couldn't find archive.
