Julie you have talked about cases of other foods in the recent past. Where do the trucks come from? Is it Azure Standard of something similar?
I would love some good fresh peaches.

Because we are quite often at the end of the line for fresh produce being so far north, we have a couple of companies that bring in semi loads of fresh off the tree fruit. Quite often it is the orchard owners who send in the trucks. I Belong to a couple of farm to table online groups that notify me when shipments are coming through, where the pickup points will be and the opportunity to preorder. They are a little more expensive than the grocery store, but so much better. I rarely order from Azure Standard. I am sure if you look for local farm to table groups in Texas you would find something similar, I know my sister who lives in eastern Texas has gone to a upick peach orchard in the past.

Winnie your pie looks wonderful. Bet it was delicious!
Judith I always make peach pies to freeze when the peaches come in. They should be ready in July. The freestone in August. I like to freeze them to for making muffins and things.

I am glad so many others are not getting delicious peaches to enjoy as well! They are a special fruit when sweet and juicy. Yum, I love eating them!!

Not much going on in my kitchen. Yesterday while cooking I pulled out one of my newer Wusthoff knives and while using it proceeded to cut my thumb quite badly. Timing is everything. JT had just pulled in the yard from work and so I held the skin together while waiting for him. We put a butterfly bandaid on it and wrapped it. He brought me wet cloths as I had to lay down. It is holding together but still very sore. He seemed to think they would have put a couple of stitches in it if we had gone to the doctor. I don't know. That was enough excitement for me for the day.

Oh Denise, I hope your thumb is better today. We sometimes just use a drop of superglue to hold things together if we have to. I finished butchering chickens this morning before the heat set in, 90 degrees today and the wind gusts are up to 35 mph. I only had 9 left to butcher so it didn't take long. Planning an easy supper of mushroom Swiss burgers and pasta salad.

Julie,
My daughter told me that about superglue too. I'd never heard of it. Just a bit sore and I still have to change the band aid once in a while.
I have never butchered chickens. Grew up on a chicken farm but mom never taught me.

I saw my Mother and her sisters butcher some yard birds when I was a kid. I said never!
And I never have. My mother taught me how to remove the chicken liver, heart and gizzard, then the remaining guts...yuck! But I did it for my family for years...because they did not sell parts! Now I just get packages of breasts, tenders, wings and thighs, sometimes.
I have three chicken breasts soaking in buttermilk...So I will fix fried chicken for Robert. I also have two small yellow squash, and About a dozen improved Porter tomatoes. Gotta get busy.

Ouchie Denise! I hope it heals fast. Watch out for infection. I would think super glue would sting like the devil.

I remember chicken butchering time and scalding the birds and picking feathers. Been there, done that, and now I get my chicken at the supermarket.

Oh Judith, I remember scalding and plucking. Blech! I hated that part. We did get a kick out of the chickens running around after their heads were off. Of course me and my brother would have to pick them up and take them to the big barrel of boiling water. We had many that we did at a time. The aunts would come help and everyone took home fresh chicken. I watched my mom do the butchering but I couldn't have been more than 9 or so and we must have gotten rid of all our animals by the time I was 13 because I don't remember doing any of that in my teen years. I can remember mom grading the eggs to sell.

I hope that your thumb is healing and you are feeling better, Denise! Those knives are so sharp and cuts can happen so fast....I'm glad that JT arrived when he did!

Marilyn, no it is to deep for that. I'm still using the butterfly on it to take the place of the stitch. It looks pretty good. Not swollen but very sore.

Denise the last booboo I had, I put some dry Epsom salt on a paper towel, wrapped it around the wound, then I dropped just tiny bits of water on to the paper towel. The soreness was much less. I did it a second time the next day and it healed. Blood poisoning is what I'm afraid of, so I always watch for that. Do you have any colloidal silver to take? That stuff is amazing

No I dont have Colloidal silver. I will look into that. I haven't put anything on it because I don't want it to open up again. The only thing holding it together is the butterfly things.

I think it is Julie. It feels a bit better. I figure in a week it ought to be looking pretty good. Throbs sometimes but not real bad.

JT is stopping to get a 20lb. box of cherries and 20lbs. of blueberries for me on his way home today. I will freeze some. I love eating them frozen in the summertime. I am going to make some baked goods for the freezer too. I will probably dehydrate some also.

Peach cobbler is a favorite around here. We often make it on camping trips in the dutch oven.

I've got peaches in the freezer. I will look at that recipe. I am making a Moist Lazy Daisy Cake today. It looks good and I love coconut.

Winnie, the cobbler looks delicous! I am a sucker for peach cobbler. I have been working on cutting sugar out of my diet...almost to 3 weeks. I'm trying very hard to make it a new habit...but seeing that cobbler is making me question my sanity....

Debbie -- Try erythritol as a sugar substitute. I don't use sugar since my diabetic diagnosis. I've tried it in tea, cookies, cake, and a sprinkle over strawberries. The only thing it hasn't worked in was tapioca; for some reason it didn't set up. but still tasted good. There is no aftertaste like with Splenda or stevia.

You don't know how many packages, little bottles, etc of stuff I have bought...trying to find something with no after taste! Have you tried mono fruit sweetner? Or is it another lie?
