Grace a great big hug your way! I am so sorry. I think it is at times just as hard to lose our animal family as human family. Take some time to take care of you too!

Any news on Angie? Hanging in here as on the downward swing at work, thank God!!!

Brenda, yes we are getting Icelandics lambs in a few weeks. I am buying a small starter flock. 2 ewes and a ram. I am extremely excited, I feel bad for the lady I am buying them from. I keep calling her.lol I also love your blog!!

Grace, so sorry about the struggles you have been having. I know we feel the same about how hard losses are, but so thankful for the successes. If the successes didn't out-weigh the losses, I'm not sure it would be worth the heart-ache. Just know you inspire so many of us budding farm girls.
Jenny how exciting! I laughed when you wrote that you are starting small with a ram and two ewes! That was my original game plan, too! We went to see the sheep we were planning to buy (and she just happened to have two more ewes sghe had for sale in the pen with ours)...by the time we arrived home we had talked ourselves into buying the other two as well! SO, we started out with four ewes and a ram. Then, I met another lady who offered me a ewe and her ewe lamb for a really good price, which I just couldn't pass up! Haha! Then, we decided to go ahead and buy two more pregnant ewes from the first lady! So, before we have even finished our first year, our flock grew from the 3 in our heads to 9 (we lost one ewe to strangling in the fence, so that put us back to 8)...and now the lambs are coming! If you love this breed like we do, 3 won't be enough for long! LOL! Of course, there are a few ladies on here with other breeds that can't resist buying more of their types, either!
Just out of curiosity, who are you buying from? (If you don't mind sharing that info).

Happy Farming!

Wow grace,19 years!!! What kind of goat was she?? that would be really hard!! I am sorry to hear that....
Well since I am not keeping the little goatie I feel I will leave it up to her new mommy , but my friends have said sugar, or snowflake would be good names... I like both of those names..
grace, I have another question, hope this hasn't been asked before on this thread, anyway, when you cut your angoras to keep the curls for customers, when you wash it how do you keep the nice curls. I want to use some of my pretty mommas fleece and use it for dolly hair and I would like to keep the pretty curls...thanks for all your help...

Brenda, I laughed out loud at your posting! We got 3 ewes so I would have some of my own fiber to spin. That was Christmas of last year, and that was all we were going to ever have. We now have 32 full grown head. I am like a racoon stealing shiny things when I see sheep! And it doesn't help that my hubby spoils me rotten. He figures it is a two fold deal. He gets livestock, i get fleece!

Still waiting on more babies.............

Hi LADIES! I'm posting from my phone, so bear with me.... The second induction failed too. I can officially say I gave it the old college try with 64 hours of total effort. I am so excited though because we are doing a c section at 7:30 am eastern time. I have his little clothes all laid out for after Wayne gives him his first bath while I get closed back up. The nurses here have been nothing short of spectacular! It's been a rough go, but the light is shining bright at the end of the tunnel! I'll try to post pics on the blog tomorrow, but can't guarantee I'll get it done no matter how much I wanna show the little guy off. Love all of you and thanks so much fcor all of the prayers!

I have a beautiful new grandson. Evan Chatham Baroch was born this morning, 7 lb 10oz. and 19 1/2 inches long and he is a beautiful baby, as his dad says...He is perfect.
I want to thank you all for your prayers, I feel so blessed.
We also had 3 new lambs during the night last night, set of twins and one single. No difficulties. Our bottle lambs are both now sucking mom so we don't rate like we did when we go into the lambing jugs. Not half done yet but we are starting to see the end of the tunnel.

I am so happy for you, Sarita and for Angie too!! I have been praying so hard for her and looking everyday for news. I am so glad that all went well. What a sweet pic on your blog. Good news on the lambs as well. Looks like a happy day for all.

Hey - novelties of novelties, the sun is actually shining here today!!!! It's so bright. I am so relieved as I am supposed to shear in the morning. It was down to 22 this morning though - brrr. I hope the temps moderate so the sheep don't freeze without all that wool. They can go in the barn but don't unless it's raining cats and dogs or a blizzard. I finally got all the finishing touches on the gifts for the baby shower so all thats left is to make a card and I am finally finished. Should be a very busy and hectic day tomorrow with shearing early and shower in the afternoon.

Have a great day everyone.

Blessings, Sheri

Congrat's Angie and Sheri - I will check over at the blog later.

I was hit with a HUGE surprise when I went into the barn at 5:30 am this morning Mishka was just finishing delivering a big healty boy. But then I hear a tiny cry and there is the middle of all the girls was this very tiny, dirty baby... I only had two who had not given birth and Miska had hers that moment so it was Lilly. Now I checked both of them yesturday before I took down the last of the kidding pens. So WHAT IN THE WORLD!!!!

The little girl was in trouble so I got her some nursing done on her mom but Lilly is not wanting her at all. So in the house we went. After bathing, warming and getting 2 ounces into I ran back outside. Mishka is not knowing what to do and she ran outside to the farest part of the pasture - just like her Mom....

So half a warm bottle for him and popped him in with Wynonna. They quickly made friends and are now sleeping under the heat lamp with full bodies.

Never a dull moment at the Funny Farm. I will check in later and let you know how things are going - so much for getting my house cleaned for my sons who are coming this weekend for my birthday... Oh well, just like things around here.

Rae I working on the idea that the less we sleep the more creative we become. Einstein only slept 4 hours each day and Michael Angelo only slept two hours - so see I just remind myself I am amongst the great's. Yeah Right, for me I am just becoming a mush brain.

The little girl in the bathroom is doing GREAT!!! She eats with full force, she even ran around the kitchen with me at 2 am... We are getting another storm coming in so no barn for her. The little boy is having such a great time with Wynonna and Opal and drank 6 ounces this morning..

I hope everyone has great plans for the weekend. My two sons, DIL and grand son will be here tomorrow for my birthday - I got to get this house picked up because Reese is now able to get into things and in this house there are tons to get into too. With the little sleep I did get in one hour pieces I had great fiber dreams. Do others do that? When I walk up I felt like I had done a weeks worth of fiber work.

Rae, I am so excited for your 6 new family members - what are they going to be used for?? The two organic farm who raised meat for my freezer went under over the winter - broke my heart and now I have to find a new source because I refuse to eat what they sell in the markets.

Michele Congrat's on the boy and good luck with the milking - I tried to help a friend once with her new milker and I remember what a nightmare and we where full of black and blue marks. It did get easy but the two of us where newbies and I am sure we did everything wrong. Since then I just have not gotten the courage to get my own.

Got to run and get more bottles ready - Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and give all your babies, both two and four legged a big kiss and squeeze from me...

Beverley I am so sorry I forgot to answer your question. When I cut the best locks for beards, hair etc. I clip with scissors, tie the cut end with a tiny rubber band and lay it in a box. When I get to washing I dip them one at a time in my special soap mixture and clip it to soak along side of the soap container. Then after soaking I gently soak in a finishing water and hang to dry. I know it is labor intensive but I get a prime price from doll makers so it is work the trouble. I get more for an eight of an ounce then most get for a half of a fleece. Well worth it if you have the right locks. Good luck and have fun.
