Grace, Isaiah asked what happened and I told him about Ebony losing the babies and he asked if we could say a prayer so he prayed for, You, Ebony and he prayed that the rest of the babies would be strong and healthy! Hoping that things are better today! (((HUGS)))

Thank you all for your wonderful words and prayers - it means the world to me and Ebony. Monica I thank you so so much for the wonderful phone message. I did not come back into the house till 2:30 am so I could not return your call. Tell Isaiah that those prayers will make the healing faster and I cherish his compassion.

This morning I gave Ebony her favorite - oatmeal with maple sugar. We sat together while she ate, I brushed her all over which she loves and then when the sun was up we went to walk the pasture to make sure she did not stay in a funk. We walked and talked and shared ton of hugs - then when we came back into the barn Chief (my pry) sat with her and licked her face and horns as they curled up under the heat lamp. Healing takes time but it will come. Besides I must stay focused on those who still have to deliver.

Again, thank you so much for your prayers and sweet words - I hated to share such news but it is part of this farm as you ladies have experienced too..

Oh gosh Grace, I read the story again and cried myself... I am so so sorry for you loss and for Ebony!! Please give her a hug for me!! She sounds like a wonderful mom!
I am getting all worried again because sadie is due really soon........ But I just need to leave her in Gods hands. I find it so hard to do that right now but I am trying. I worry to much. Again I am so so sorry Grace!! If there is anything I can do let me know.
Hugs,

Grace, I just wanted to at least leave you a message to tell you how much my heart ached for your loss! Isaiah quite often amazes me with his compassion and thoughtfulness! I will let him know how much it meant to you! Please don't ever hesitate to share even the bad news! I think we have all grown close enough on this thread that we are here to lean on when things are rough and laugh with when things are good and everywhere in between!

Amen to that Monica. I was so glad you were all there for me when Chisolm died last week. It meant a world of difference to have all your support. I count this as one of my "treasures" in a life that can often be pretty indifferent. We are so lucky to have this chance to connect to friends of like mind and heart.

Grace, I am sorry about your loss. the lives of our animal friends are so fraught with drama, if we are aware of it. I am praying that the rest of the kidding season goes well for you.

Good Morning Ladies - well Ebony is still feeling her loss but I did get her to come walk with me and we spent quality time together away from the barn. Your right ladies it is very important to share with those who understand but I do hate to be the bringer of bad news. Sheri your right the loss of your Chisolm can be lightened a bit when others share in that experience. Also, Sadie will do just fine - I understand those feelings of fear but even after all these years and the hundreds of babies born here I first place my faith in Mother Nature, then in the knowledge I have gained thru my readings and hands on experience. Last I know that there is a order to all things and even I do not understand it or agree with it - it is so.

I do count my blessings for your wonderful support and understanding - just hate to be a wet blanket...

On the up side - I finished a phone interview Sunday and very soon I will have another article out about the Funny Farm out there. I will also be writing an article or two about small farm fiber businesses for the County Life on line publication. So with every set back there comes a step forward.

So heads up today and walk forward. Sending blessings to you all and I thank you for your support.

Just got back from checking the girls - I did put two of them up in to kidding pens because both of them are real fighters and I do not wish to chase someone down. Both are one who always have twins so I will be checking, watching and revisiting all my books while I have lunch.

Sarita - not sure of the cause but that rapid heart rate has me concerned. Both where of good size for twins, the bodies well developed which means organ failure as a possibility. My goat mentor has since passed on - she was a wealth of information and someone I could pounch ideas off of. Ebony was of good health, weight and condition. Remember I told you that her hair blow out early - took her temp when it happened and no temp out of the norm so I don't think she has an infection. But will be checking the other girls and keeping very close tabs on everyone.

Hope everyone is having better weather - the sun is out but it is bitter cold. We are to get another snow storm by Wednesday. Being that as always I took some time this morning to tidey up the barns, clean out water and feed containers. Sure saves time when the snow is howling.

Be well everyone

Grace ~ so sorry to hear of your loss. I will be thinking of you. Tragedy has a way of finding us, but it makes the good times even sweeter and more cherished. (sorry it took so long - craziness around here - the boys' basketball games, spinning more than I should, etc.)

Grace take care of yourself too so you have some energy as well. Wow you are having quite the winter!!! We haven't really gotten much since Christmas, little dusting or an inch or 3. Windy today out of north so makes it chilly but supposed to be in 20's here all week so that is good for us and Basil

Hope all are doing well!!

Thanks Rae for the reminder - I think we all forget to easy up on ourselves at times. I really feel sorry for those in the South and back East - they are really getting hit with snow - at least in Colorado we are living in that type of snow belt but I finally watched the news today and could not believe what is going on - Mother Nature sure is pissed...

Strange thing happened in the barn this afternoon my two meanest gals put themselves up into kidding pens without me even trying - in all the years here they are the ones you have to chase down and then drag almost the whole length of the pasture to get them into a pen. Guess they are telling me something These two always give twins so I will be up all night just to make sure.

Rae how is Basil doing?? I love his name. How did you reach that name if I might ask? After naming hundreds of babies sometimes it gets to be more then my brain can handle..

That might be a question for the group - how do you settle on names??

Hi all. I have a lot of sympathy for the folks getting hit with the storms - we got it two winters in a row. This year Mother gave us a break and we've had a super warm winter with little snow in the lower elevations for which I am grateful. It cost me a thousand dollars to keep my road open last winter and almost as much the year before. Not to mention the record cold and potential damage to outbuildings. I was lucky with only minor damage to one roof but many had collapses last year.

I hope your gals have an easy delivery and healthy kids, Grace. My sheep are still doing fine although now that Chisolm is gone, Barrick, Chisolms brother is now picking on Roddy, the younger wether. I think I am going to have to replace Chisolm to keep the peace. I have no plans to breed even though I have two registered ewes. I'd rather just purchase them when I want them and forgo all the stress that you ladies go through. Especially now that I know the vet isn't going to be on top of things....

Let us know how it's going.

Blessings, Sheri

My grandfathers names are Basil and Walter. My Dad was always trying to get me to name my boys Basil Walter. Anyway when we had this boy I thought well.... Basil, my Mom would like the next boy Walter To make it more fitting my grandpa, Basil, also raised sheep. By using my passed on relatives name it is with love and utmost respect. I love my sheep dearly so why not of those I loved dearly.
Oops almost forgot, Basil is doing great so far, 2 weeks old now!

I do feel for those getting nailed with snow. We know how to survive in it as it is really much more of a norm for us. I know we are going to get a really nasty winter here pretty soon as we are due.

Oh ladies - guess what? I just found a farm here in Arkansas that has some shetland lambs for sale! The closest ones we have found up till now were 6 hours away in Missouri. Our first 3 made that long trip home from there in the back of my suburban in a snow storm. (THAT was an adventure!) I am trying to build up a small fiber herd, and these are just gorgeous! I am on pins and needles waiting for a reply to my email from them! Everyone at work would think I was crazy if I let on how excited I was, but I know that all of you would understand!

Oh Lori I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you - HOW EXCITING We know just how you are feeling and we are right there with you!!! Please let us know the moment you hear- we get excited too.....

Good News on the Birthing Barn - at 2:30 to 3:30 today Esmerelda gave birth to triplets - you read that right TRIPLETS - this is the first set of triplets that my goats have every had and they are so far doing great. There is one girl and two boys. They have all nursed and pee and pooped multiple times but I am going to be out in the barn for most of the night just to make sure... Esmerelda looked like she was only carring a single so what a surprise. I will post more on my blog by tomorrow. If Esmerelda had triplets I can not imagine how many Rebecca might have because she is huge... Well, back into the barn - stay warm everyone.
