Dyeing With Kool-Aid

dyeing with kool-aid

This unusual "dye" produces lovely, brilliant colors on wool and other protein fibers like alpaca or silk, although it won't bind to cellulose fibers such as cotton.

I discovered this when my daughter Meg turned her little brother's hair green almost 18 years ago. It stayed green for weeks!

(Try Vt Organic Fiber for organic wool fabric and yarn.)

For dyeing 100 percent wool fabric, dissolve 1 package Kool-Aid in 1 quart water and bring to a boil.

Add fabric to the mixture and remove from heat.

Let cool until liquid turns clear. Remove fabric, rinse in cold water, and hang to dry.
